This casual German beer bar started life as a food truck at the Aoyama Farmers Market, and the kitchen offers a well-executed menu of schnitzel, sausages and other meaty German fare to go with your beer. Eight taps dispense German and German-style beers, including several of Schmatz's own original beers.

The extensive food menu offers pizzas, pastas and risotti, a tempting range of sausages (lamb, herb, currywurst), meat dishes (schnitzel, charcuterie platter), and even some German vegetable dishes. The dining room is very casual, with most seating at high tables with stools, although there are a few proper dining tables in back. A mix of contemporary German pop music plays in the background.

Budget around Y3,500-4,500 in the evening for food and drink, including table charge, or less if you just have a beer and a snack. Lunches run around Y1,000.
