Haburashi Beer and Potato: Shibuya
Haburashi Beer and Potato Shibuya: Scandinavian

Scandinavian-themed craft-beer bars seem to be popping up all over Shibuya, but unlike the other bars, the cozy Haburashi (Toothbrush) also provides a menu of Nordic-inspired dishes like grilled salmon, smoked trout salad, roast beef, and Norwegian and Danish cheeses. The bar's four taps dispense three Scandinavian craft beers plus Carlsberg, and there's also a promising selection of hard-to-find Swedish, Danish and Norwegian beers in bottles, and Helsinki Dry Gin if you're in the mood for a cocktail.

In addition to main dishes and salads, the food menu offers a whole page of potato dishes, including excellent kroppkaka - Swedish-style potato dumplings stuffed with cheese. Our cheese platter featured a nice brunost (a caramelly Norwegian brown cheese) and tasty, dense rye bread, and there was plenty of fresh dill in our salad - all signs that they take their Scandinavian mission seriously.

The cheerful interior is modern Nordic in style, with lots of blond wood, colorful fabrics and ceramic tiles. Most seating is on bar stools at high tables, or at the counter - the setup is definitely more like a bar than a restaurant. The daily specials menu is listed on tiny Post-it notes which are easy to miss, but they're worth looking for. Budget around Y3000-4500 for some drinks and a meal, or less if you just pop in for a drink or two.
