Hitachino Brewing Shinjuku: Nishi-Shinjuku
Hitachino Brewing Shinjuku Nishi-Shinjuku: Beer bar

Six taps dispense a rotating selection of Hitachino Nest craft beers at this small train-station bar, and you can get any of their draft beers to go. The bar is furnished with 15 seats at two shared tables and there are also a few high mini-tables you can perch at.

The popular Ibaraki-based brewery also runs a ham factory, producing premium cured meats under the "Barrel Smoke" brand, and you can buy sausages and hams to take home. The name comes from the production method - to impart extra flavor during the smoking process they use oak barrels in which Hinomaru whiskey has been aged.

The bar's food menu showcases Barrel Smoke meats, and at lunchtime you can get focaccia sandwiches stuffed with the "prosciutto of the day". The excellent charcuterie platter comes in two sizes and features six or seven different meats, plus thinly sliced raw mushrooms as an option. Side dishes include baked pulled pork with cheese, German potatoes with crispy bacon, and aged bacon and mushroom ajillo.

In addition to beers, the drinks menu offers craft gin and whisky, a Nest low-alcohol (0.3%) beer, and soft drinks.

Note that the bar is located inside the JR Shinjuku station gates, in the NeWoMAn Ekinaka area by the far-south exit. Platform tickets are Y150 in case you want to eat and drink here without taking a JR train.
